What is it like to live in Walton?
Walton is one of those established MK areas that families find and never want to leave. Tree-lined residential streets, good primary schools, and the beautiful Caldecotte Lake right on the doorstep. The area benefits enormously from its proximity to the Open University campus - a steady stream of academic professionals rents and buys here, which keeps values stable and the community engaged. Caldecotte Lake is a genuine asset: weekend walking, birdwatching, cycling, watersports - all within a 10-minute walk. An underrated area that consistently performs well for both families and investors.
Walton has an established, mature, quietly confident feel. The streets are tree-lined, the housing is well-maintained, and the community is a mix of families, academics and professionals. The Open University proximity brings a slightly cosmopolitan, intellectual atmosphere. It is not flashy - it is solid, green and desirable in an understated way. Caldecotte Lake is the social and recreational heart.
History of Walton
Walton was developed in the 1980s and 1990s as part of the south-eastern expansion of Milton Keynes. It was planned as a medium-density residential area with generous green spaces and good grid road connections. The arrival of the Open University campus nearby in the 1970s shaped the area's demographic, attracting academic and professional families. Caldecotte Lake was created as part of MK's flood management and parkland system and has become the area's defining natural asset.
