What is it like to live in Loughton?
Loughton is one of the original Milton Keynes villages - absorbed into the grid city but retaining a distinct, leafy identity. It is remarkably close to Central MK (under 10 minutes drive), yet it feels genuinely village-like: mature trees, established housing, low traffic, and the beautiful Loughton Valley Park running through the area. Properties are a mix of 1970s-1990s detached and semi-detached homes, which means you get more garden and more character for your money compared to modern developer estates. The community is established, confident and quietly affluent. Crime is extremely low.

The community is quietly affluent and settled - professionals, established families and downsizers who value greenery and proximity to CMK. It feels like a village that happens to be 8 minutes from a city centre. Loughton Valley Park is the green heart.
History of Loughton
Loughton is a historic village listed in the Domesday Book. It was a small rural settlement with a church and manor for centuries before Milton Keynes was designated. The village was absorbed into the New Town development from the 1970s onward, with modern residential estates built around the original village core. The original village green, church and some historic buildings remain. Loughton Valley Park was created as part of MK's linear park system, preserving the natural corridor through the area.
